Rendell brace sends Hatters through

Scott Rendell's double saw Luton progress to the second round of the FA Cup at the expense of Blue Square Bet Premier League rivals Nuneaton after a 2-0 win.

Hatters striker Rendell took his goal tally for the season to nine with an effort in either half to secure his side's first win in four games - and a tie against Dorchester.

The visitors started brightly and Janos Kovacs' header was cleared off the line by Simon Forsdick after just two minutes.

Luton took the lead on 22 minutes when Rendell touched the ball home from a JJ O'Donnell cross, giving goalkeeper Ben McNamara no chance.

Just before the half-hour mark, Luton were almost pegged back as James Armson fired just wide from a Tom James corner.

Andy Brown then came within inches of an equaliser, but his header from James' free-kick on 38 minutes crashed against the post.

Two minutes before the break, Rendell could have got a second but his effort was easily picked up by keeper McNamara.

But the former Wycombe forward did grab another from the penalty spot on 72 minutes after Gareth Dean brought down Andre Gray.
