Sol joins Peterborough on loan

Davis: On his way out permanently?
Sol Davis, 28, has not been able to break into the first-team this season after the summer arrival of Alan Goodall from Rochdale, and hasn't made any appearances so far for Luton this season. Sol signed for Luton under Joe Kinnear from Swindon in 2002 and has proved to be a solid defender for the club, even if he was a little bit aggressive at times. He even scored his first two career goals against Bradford and Bristol City in the title-winning 2004-05 season, but suffered a stroke in October 2006 on the way to a fixture against Ipswich Town. However, he was back within two months, although his form has been less than convincing since his return, but the whole team played badly as well.

Sol is a definite fans favourite at Luton, having been at the club for so long - only Coyne, Brkovic and Robinson have been around longer (with the exception of youth team players and Matthew Spring, who rejoined the club but has been here longer in total). After being placed on the transfer list in the summer, it appears that Sol's days at Luton are very much numbered, after an apparent falling out with boss Kevin Blackwell. The only chance that Sol has of reconciliation is if he can find his form at Peterborough again and make Blackwell think twice about selling him on. At 28 years old, Davis should still have some good years to give, and providing that he finds the form that he had the season we won the league, he still has a lot to offer any club, particularly if he curbs his temper and improves his disciplinary record. With the amount of red cards and yellow cards Davis has accumulated, and with the number of times he loses his temper on the pitch, Sol can quickly become a liability if he looks like getting himself sent off. However, when he does keep his temper in check he is a solid full-back, and on form he is probably our best left-back. Although Sol will probably leave in January or June, many Luton fans will hope we haven't seen the last of Sol Davis.
