Newell signs 4-year deal

Bill Tomlins, Luton chairman (56) said "I am pleased to confirm that the club's offer of a new four-year contract has been agreed and will be signed after consultation with Mike's solicitor.

"I believe this new long-term commitment from Mike reflects his loyalty and belief he can develop and achieve his ambitions with Luton.

"Even when speculation was rife, Michael always indicated his desire to stay with us. His record here speaks volumes."

Michael (pictured looking cheerful as usual) has been linked with the vacant managerial post at Leicester City in recent weeks despite Rob Kelly doing a more than adequate job, so the news will come as a great relief to all Luton fans. Newell has also been linked with various Premiership jobs during his tenure as Luton manager, although whether there is actually any truth in those rumours is doubtful.
