Morgan goes to Orient, good luck to them

Morgan, who is 25 in October, has passed his medical and gone on loan to Orient, where he should stay until the end of January, unless they are fed up with him before that and send him back. Morgan's contract is up in 2009, so it doesn't look like the former Reading and Colchester player has much of a future at Luton.

Morgan's career at Luton started off very well. He joined Luton in 2005, in the club's return to the Championship, and performed well in the opening game at recently relegated Crystal Palace. He then became a favourite with Luton fans by scoring a last minute winner in the opening home game of the 05-06 season, with a screamer against Southampton, also recently relegated. He took the ball past Dennis Wise, making him look stupid, which isn't difficult to be honest. By October, he looked like he would be a good signing, as he had added three more goals to his tally by then, but laziness soon crept into his game, and despite having no serious injuries that season, he only managed 27 starts for Luton, scoring six goals, far less than his ability deserved. Morgan was again disappointing the next season, appearing in 42 matches for Luton, but 17 of those appearances were as a sub. He managed five goals that season, which meant he ended up as the club's top scorer out of all those players still at the club. He was guilty, however, for one of the worst penalties ever taken by a Luton player at Leeds that season.

Last season, Morgan played for three different clubs, having spells at Crewe Alexandra and Southend United on loan. Neither club seemed to be interested in a more permanent deal, in fact Southend were more interested in a 39 year old striker from Luton than Morgan. I'm sure not many Luton fans will be too sad to see Morgan go. In my opinion, there is nothing worse than a player who clearly has talent that wastes his talent by being so lazy on the pitch. Morgan was a player that, with his ability, should have taken the league by storm, but he didn't, and I'm sure if he was in the first-team for Luton, we'd be saying the same about League Two. One good thing about him was that, to the best of my knowledge, he never actually openly criticised Luton, or asked to leave the club specifically, unlike some of the useless players from last season. Good luck to Leyton Orient - they now have both Adam Boyd and Dean Morgan in their squad if they sign Morgan, so let's hope that the other outfield players they have are hard workers.
