Luton star in Wales squad

Last updated : 10 September 2007 By Peter Bulkeley
Edwards, 21, was originally called into the Wales U-21 squad, where he is already a very prominent member of the team. He has made 11 appearances for the U-21 team since making his debut in 2006, and he has scored 5 goals for them, most recently just a few weeks ago. Edwards has been in very good form since signing for Luton this season for a fee decided by a tribunal from Shrewsbury.

Edwards has been called up because of an injury picked up by Wigan midfielder Jason Koumas, and Mark Jones of Wrexham is also likely to pull out because of flu symptoms. Despite this call-up, it is unlikely that David Edwards will feature for Wales in the Euro 2008 Group D qualifier in Slovakia in midweek. It may also mean that Edwards could be doubtful for the Friday match against Tranmere if he has only just returned to training. This is Edwards' second call-up to the full squad, although he didn't play for Wales the last time he was called up either. This call-up will add money onto the price tag of Edwards, which will be beneficial for the club directors when we eventually sell him for pots of cash that is never seen again. The full squad is listed below, taken from BBC Sport.
