Luton not drawn against Wigan

The draw, which was made tonight, will see Luton go up against the Royals for the fifth time in the League Cup. Luton played Reading in the 2005-06 competition, the year Reading stormed to the Championship title, in the Second Round, losing 1-0 in the process. The Hatters also played at the Madjeski Stadium in the First Round of the 2001/02 season, where Joe Kinnear's men were humbled 4-0. There was also a two legged match in 1980, where Luton won 3-1 on aggregate after a victory away from home.

A messageboard hoax meant that it was reported that we had been drawn away to Wigan for the Second Round, 15 minutes before the draw was actually made, but Wigan instead got Notts County at home. Other League Two teams were also involved in the draw. Macclesfield were given an away trip to West Ham United, whilst Rotherham have been drawn at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Notts County were the team who actually drew Wigan away, and Grimsby have also been given an away match in Lancashire against Premiership opponents, Blackburn. Darlington have been given an away trip to Vicarage Road.
