Luton make Dale defender second signing

This time, Kevin Blackwell has swooped to sign out of contract Rochdale defender Alan Goodall for free. Goodall, who is 25 years old, has played 131 times for Rochdale, scoring 8 goals in those matches. Goodall played 50 matches for Rochdale last season, and featured in every single minute for Rochdale, so knowing our luck he'll be extremely tired from last season. Goodall is apparently a left-back, who has also played for Bangor City. He has played European football for Bangor City as well, against FK Smederevo.

The signing of Goodall means that there should be more depth in the Luton squad for next season more than anything else. With just Davis and Emanuel at left-back, that position looked vulnerable, particularly with Emanuel's inconsistency and Davis' habit of picking up suspensions. Again, although not exactly young, Goodall isn't the most experienced player in the world, so hopefully we will be able to sign some additional players as well as Edwards and Goodall. Many fans may think that signing a player from Rochdale isn't particularly ambitious, but then again Carlos Edwards, Bell and Underwood were all signed from teams near to the bottom of the Football League hierachy, so as long as Edwards and Goodall are good enough, it doesn't really matter.
