Harford signs Pugh on loan

Pugh, 21, has signed on loan at Luton Town for a month, which may be extended until the end of the year. Marc is a winger who can also play as a second striker, so the signing is certainly for a position that we need players in. Pugh is 5ft 11, making him exactly two feet taller than the average size of Blackwell's signings at Luton. He started his career at Burnley, playing in youth team matches and reserve matches for the Clarets, and being named on the bench a few times, without being brought on. He was sent to Kidderminster Harriers on loan in 2005-06, where he scored once in 7 starts.

After being released before the end of the season by Burnley, Pugh was quickly offered a contract by Chris Casper at Bury, and he made six appearances before the end of the season, scoring once. He then spent another season at Bury, scoring 4 in 41 appearances that season, before a move to Shrewsbury Town. He was a semi-regular at Shrewsbury Town, with 28 starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring 4 goals in the process. This season, he has made two sub appearances for Shrewsbury, in last Saturday's defeat at Morecambe and in the Paint Pot Cup Thingy at Exeter, where Shrewsbury won 2-1. So the bad news is that he won't be able to play for us in that competition, presuming that the usual rules apply, which will be a huge blow for the club.

The move is good for the club in that it gives us a winger that has been described as having pace. On the other hand, signing a player on loan from a team in the same division, a player who hasn't been playing for that team, albeit one of the strongest teams in the division. The move may have come about because of Shrewsbury signing Sean Thornton on loan from Leyton Orient. Despite my doubts, I am prepared to admit that I thought Chris Perry would be an excellent signing, so that shows what I know about football. I look forward to seeing Marc on Saturday showing us how good he is.
