Furlong offers refused by Mick

League Two sides Barnet and Wycombe Wanderers have both put in loan offers for the 69 year old former Premiership striker, but Mick decided that Luton needed the services of Furlong. Furlong is Luton's top scorer this season, with 12 goals to his name in all competitions, but has only scored three times since November. Although to be fair, that is more than most of our other strikers, with Andrew contributing with four goals and Parkin with the one goal. I think it's a good decision from Mick, as although Furlong isn't exactly getting any younger, he is one of the only strikers who looks like they might score a goal in recent weeks, despite being in a barren run at the moment. We also need players who want to fight for survival in this league, even if it is too late, and I believe Furlong wants the fight, unlike many other players it seems.

Mick also has to decide whether to play Stephen O'Leary or Steve Robinson for the trip to Southend on Saturday. O'Leary has played in both home games against Millwall and Walsall in recent weeks owing to the suspension of Robinson for these games. In these matches he has done a reasonable job, and has certainly been the best midfielder (which isn't really saying much to be honest). Robbo had probably been one of the better midfielders before his suspension (which again isn't saying much), but although he is another one who is up for the fight, his age sadly means that he may be of limited use in many matches. I'd be tempted to start both O'Leary and Robinson against Southend, so that hopefully some of the less committed midfielders might wake up and buck up their ideas. At least we would go down with more of a fight as well.
