Franchise friendly called off

The cancellation of the friendly comes after uproar from Luton fans after the friendly was announced. The club still have two confirmed friendlies - a home match against OFK Belgrade and an away match at Stevenage.

The decision came about after fans set up an online petition, after fans e-mailed the club in droves asking the match to be postponed and after Trust in Luton spoke out against the arranged friendly. Congratulations must go to Trust in Luton for their part in the cancellation of the fixture, to the fans who e-mailed the club expressing their views and signed the petition, and to Lord G, who set up the petition so quickly after the friendly's announcement.

Bill Tomlins, the club chairman, has also stated that the club are still committed to moving to the site just off Junction 10A of the M1, dismissing worries that the club were planning a groundshare with the Franchise. Tomlins' reputation has been damaged thanks to the fiasco of the friendly, but it is not beyond repair. If the chairman can deliver on his promise of moving the club to Junction 10A and manage to get rid of Paul Hughes, then he will be remembered fondly by Luton fans.
