Five released by Hatters

Last updated : 27 May 2009 By Peter Bulkeley
Wingers Dean Morgan and Paul McVeigh, striker Sam Parkin, goalkeeper Dean Brill and left-back Sol Davis have all been released after their contracts expired in the summer. Striker Drew Talbot is also available for transfer as he still has one year on his contract.

Sol Davis was the longest serving player at the club, having signed for Luton in 2002 under Joe Kinnear. Dean Brill has also been part of the senior squad since 2003, and their departures means that none of the players from the Kinnear era remain, with the possible exception of Keith Keane, although he would probably classify as the year after.

Sam Parkin was signed in 2006 as a replacement for Steve Howard, but injuries hampered him throughout his stay at Luton, and it comes as no surprise to see his release, particularly when you consider that his wages would have been on a par with many in the Championship. Morgan signed in 2005, and despite an initial wondergoal on his home debut against Southampton, has failed to impress, and has been branded lazy by many Luton fans. Paul McVeigh was the last of Badgewell's signings to leave the club, whose departure again wouldn't surprise many people as he made very few appearances in his two years at Luton, or at least very few starts.

Drew Talbot was a £250,000 signing from Sheffield Wednesday in the 2006 January transfer window, but three years service has seen a very poor goal return from Talbot, despite his effort never being in question. One of his best moments came in the FA Cup match against Liverpool, when he tore Sami Hyypia apart at Kenilworth Road. Unfortunately, such occasions were rare, despite his best efforts.

I intend to write a proper review of the players' years at Luton in the next few days, so look out for that, in the meantime, I would like to wish five of them all the best for the future and thanks for your efforts.
