Experienced defender signs new contract

Experienced centre-back Russell Perrett has signed a new contract with the Hatters that will keep him at the club until the end of next season, leaving only Peter Holmes and Steve Howard out of contract.

Perrett hasn't had an extended spell in the first team this season, but when called upon he has performed very well. The two memorable moments in his season came at Bournemouth and Doncaster. At Bournemouth, the ref decided to send Perrett off after the Bournemouth striker jumped over him and stumbled and fell over, whilst at Doncaster he scored his first goal of the season (and his last)

Newell is now hoping for Peter Holmes and Steve Howard to sign on. It should be easy to persuade Holmesy to sign on, but talks with Howard don't look good. The almost legendary striker's agent (his legend status will be confirmed when he signs on) has apparently been making big demands, and Newell has insisted he won't be held to ransom. The decision on Rowan Vine is still in Pompey's hands.

Rotherham United FC have also confirmed that they will play the Hatters in a friendly at Kenilworth Road on Monday July 25 (ko 7:45pm), although the official Luton Town website have not confirmed that Mick Harford's side will visit.
