Edwards signs for Luton from Shrews

Edwards, 21, has signed a three year deal at Kenilworth Road. The midfielder is Blackwell's first signing since joining the club. Edwards has made appearances for the Welsh under 21 team on numerous occasions and was also included in the full Welsh squad on one occasion, although he never actually made an appearance. Edwards made 147 appearances in total for Shrewsbury, scoring 15 goals in the process. He made over 50 appearances in the whole of last season, although not towards the end of the season. Edwards declared before the end of the season that he wouldn't be staying at the club, so he played no part in the team's heroic defeat of the evil Franchise in the play-off semi-finals. Luton fought off interest from Northampton to complete the signing of Edwards.

The signing of Edwards will hopefully be followed by the signing of many other players. There have been many rumours about players Blackwell is interested in signing recently, the newest being QPR's Paul Furlong. Other rumours have involved players such as Paul Peschisolido, Marvin Elliot and Thierry Henry, although the last one looks unlikely. It is no big secret that Blackwell is looking to get experience into the squad, as he has commented on the team's lack of experience many times. This means it is strange that our first signing of the summer is a 21 year old, although hopefully there will be more signings to come afterwards. With the performances of Robinson and Emanuel towards the end of last season being poor, it was particularly important that we signed a midfielder to help us.

As well as rumours involving new signings, there have also been rumours about numerous players leaving the club. Barnett rumours refuse to go away completely, despite Pinkney telling the press that there is no need for us to sell and an inflated price tag of about £3million. There have also been rumours involving Adam Boyd. Boyd was apparently set to move to Darlington, with Swansea also interested, but the move fell through due to complications involving agents apparently. Although maybe it was something to do with the pubs in Darlington. I have no problem with Boyd staying at Luton, providing that he gets his career back on track again and gets his fitness sorted out. A move for former Luton midfielder Kevin Nicholls looks unlikely, owing to the fact that he signed for Preston today, with a Preston player going the other way. Hopefully more transfer news will be available later.
