Brkovic spotted by Championship teams?

Ahmet Brkovic is supposedly being chased by Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City, as the right midfielder continues to put in first-class performances for the Hatters.

Ahmet has improved greatly since his poor performances last season, and most Luton fans would agree that he has been the player of the season so far. This has been noticed by his ex-manager Joe Kinnear and his assistant Mick Harford (who was Newell's assistant earlier in the season). Brkovic said that he was flattered by the interest shown in him, but wanted to sign a new contract with Luton.

So should Hatters fans be worried by these rumours? The answer that I would give is probably not. The financial situation at the two clubs has to be taken into consideration. As Hatters fans found out 18 months ago, it isn't exactly cheap to have Joe Kinnear as your manager, even for a club the size of Forest. Cardiff are not particularly in a secure financial position either, despite the high money transfer of Rob Earnshaw to West Brom earlier on in the season

It should also be taken into consideration that Ahmet has an excellent chance of winning another promotion with the Hatters and maybe even the title. He is also in with an excellent chance of picking up Player of the Year awards at Luton as long as he stays at the club. If it was a Premiership club who was interested in Ahmet, then we would worry, but it is unlikely that Premiership clubs would want to sign him because of his age. And as the season goes on, the chances of Luton winning promotion seem to be increasing. If Ahmet were to join Nottingham Forest or Cardiff, then he would be involved in a relegation battle for the rest of the season and would possibly be playing League One football again next season.

Kinnears treatment of Brkovic when he was a Luton player should also be taken into consideration. He wasn't treated particularly badly, but wasn't really given much of a chance. Despite a poor season last season, Mike Newell kept faith in him and gave him another chance this season, and Newell has certainly been proved right with that decision.

Hopefully for Town these rumours won't amount to anything and Ahmet will remain a Luton player, as he is a superb asset to the club as they aim to win promotion to the Championship.
