Accrington reach fourth round with win against Luton

Omar Beckles secured Accrington a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over fellow League Two side Luton.

The defender leapt highest to head home the winner in the 57th minute to help Stanley progress through the third round for the first time since 2010.

Sean McConville gave Accrington a half-time lead before Jake Gray levelled for Luton, who ended the game with 10 men after Glen Rea was dismissed in stoppage time.

Accrington had the most possession in the first half and Matty Pearson had an effort blocked while Jonny Edwards fired just wide.

But Luton almost took the lead against the run of play when Isaac Vassell's goal-bound strike was hooked off the line by Pearson in the 29th minute.

Stanley took the lead in first-half added time when winger Sean McConville received the ball 25 yards out from Billy Kee and found the far corner of the net for his first goal since August.

Promotion-chasing Luton replied nine minutes into the second half when substitute Jack Marriott's shot was pushed out by Aaron Chapman and Gray pounced first to find the bottom corner of the net.

Stanley powered back in front four minutes later when McConville's cross was headed home at the far post by Beckles.

Both Gray and sub Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu came close to levelling again for Luton with long-range efforts but their hopes of an equaliser were ended in added time when Rea was sent off for a second yellow card.
